Body recovered at Hume Lake

The body of Danny Iglesias of Anaheim was recovered Tuesday, July 8, by divers working with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department. Iglesias, 26, was last seen swimming in the Sandy Cove area of Hume Lake on Friday, July 4.

Witnesses told investigating officers that they saw Iglesias suddenly start to struggle in the water and then disappear beneath the surface. According to information in the incident report, Iglesias was not intoxicated or taking any medications.

Dense underwater vegetation made it difficult for divers to spot the victim. The Hume Lake drowning preceded the drowning of Luis Ortiz, 38, who drowned Saturday, July 5, while swimming in Shaver Lake.

Hume Lake, situated at 5,200 feet, is located in the Giant Sequoia National Monument near the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon National Park. It is a manmade lake built in 1908 by a local lumber company.
