CEMEX and Lemon Cove neighbors settle dispute

Attorneys for CEMEX, the parent company that operates the Stillwell sand and gravel mine in Lemon Cove, and a half-dozen neighbors to the operation announced on Wednesday, April 8, that a settlement had been reached in a year-long dispute that threatened to curtail future mining activity at the site. Attorneys for both sides spoke at the regular meeting of the Tulare County Planning Commission this week and indicated that the two sides were satisfied with conditions of the agreement.

Terms of the settlement, that includes financial compensation for alleged impact to several of the neighbors’ water wells, were not made public.

The public hearing on the matter of the renewal of the CEMEX mining permit was continued for 30 days so county planning staff could receive input on the conditions of the settlement and the permit.
