Charles Pope Powell of Three Rivers died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, in Porterville with his wife and daughters by his side, and after fighting Parkinson’s disease for almost 30 years. He was 86.
Charles was born and raised in Hickory Valley, Tenn. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. During that time, he was stationed at Port Hueneme, Calif., where he met and fell in love with his wife-to-be, Betty.
After being discharged from the Navy, Charles began his career as a police officer in Oxnard. He quickly worked his way through the ranks and retired from this career after 29½ years.
Charles and Betty built two homes before finding the beautiful community of Three Rivers where they bought a lot and built their home. Charles’s family will always remember him as a man’s man, who had faith and integrity and was strong, loving, and humble. Among his last words were "So long, Charlie."
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his five siblings, son-in-law Chris Kluczynski, and granddaughter Nikki Rose Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Lou Powell; two daughters, Sandra Anderson of Three Rivers and Tamra Kluczynski of Ventura; his son Rocky Charles Powell and wife Kristi of Three Rivers; five grandchildren, Korey Anderson and Kari Wagner of Jeffersonville Ind., David Dobson and Jody Ingold and husband Jason of Ventura, and Cheri Powell of Three Rivers; and nine great grandchildren.
Charles will be interred at Three Rivers Cemetery.
