The driver who crossed the center line of Highway 198 east of the Kaweah Recreation Area and was involved in the rollover crash on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 20, was identified as Dustin Small, 22. Small was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup heading to a lockout service call for Wallace Towing in Three Rivers when the crash occurred.
Small told the CHP officer at the scene that his eastbound pickup veered to the left because of a mechanical problem, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a westbound 2014 Toyota Sienna driven by Jay Hossain of Three Rivers. Hossain is the owner of the Western Holiday Lodge in Three Rivers.
Hossain complained of neck pain and also had some scrapes and scratches. He is currently receiving treatment for his injuries sustained in the crash. His van suffered major damage to the driver’s side.
Small was determined to be at fault in the accident, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor. He is recovering from his injuries at Cypress Rehabilitation Center in Visalia.
