County of Tulare to receive more than $48 million in COVID-19 relief funds

State Senator Andreas Borgeas (R-Fresno) has announced that the California Department of Finance notified the Legislature on how $1.8 billion from California’s share of the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund will be allocated to counties and cities. Senator Borgeas represents the 8th Senate District, which encompasses all or portions of the counties listed below.
“It is our job at the state level to empower counties and cities to fight the COVID-19 pandemic at the local level,” said Senator Borgeas. “I will continue to advocate for state support for our local communities. We must put an end to this pandemic, protect public health, get our economy back on track, and get our kids back in school when safe.” County of Tulare to receive
Of Tulare County’s nearly $49 million in federal funds, $7.5 million ($1.5 million to each of the five supervisorial districts) is being allocated for small businesses that have taken a hit due to the pandemic. Affected businesses, nonprofit groups, and independent contractors with less than 20 employees that haven’t received assistance from the Paycheck Protection Program or an Economic Injury Disaster Loan will be eligible to apply for up to $5,000. The letter from DOF includes allocations for each city and county in California. The funds will be remitted in phases, with the first allocations each consisting of one-sixth of the total amounts available to each entity. The letter states that first and second installments will be disbursed on August 1 and September 1, and the third will be sent in October of this year.
