Dollar General, a Tennessee-based chain of variety stores, is looking at Three Rivers as a potential site for another Tulare County outlet. The company claims to have more locations than any other retailer in America.
Michael Washam, Tulare County’s Director of Economic Development and Planning, said his department has been in discussions with Dollar General’s representatives about several more stores for Tulare County and Three Rivers fits the criteria. Washam said he suggested that the company look for an existing building first to see if there are any vacant properties that could be recycled.
Dollar General is currently proceeding with new locations in Orosi and Springville. The Woodlake store opened in 2014 in a newly constructed 12,000 square-foot building on Naranjo just west of Valencia Blvd.
“The company is willing to add design elements to reflect the character of the community in which it is located,” Washam said.
Agents for the company have been invited to make a presentation on behalf the proposed project at the Decemeber 7 Town Meeting, sponsored by the Three Rivers Village Foundation. Washam said he had no knowledge of who erected the Dollar General sign in Three Rivers and would be surprised if the company was ready to unveil its plans by the December meeting.
Dollar General specializes in clothing, cleaning supplies, home décor, personal care items, pet supplies, toys, seasonal items, and groceries. According to its website, the chain has 12,000 stores in 43 states with 147 stores in California.
