Drivers escape injury in two early-morning crashes


It never fails. The better weather and the approach of spring bring more traffic and more accidents. 

This past weekend three motorists in two separate accidents all escaped serious injury but not some major vehicle damage and the usual fender benders. The first of the two mishaps occurred on Friday, March 8, just before 8 a.m.

Daniel Hoover, 20, of Visalia was driving his 1996 Chevy pickup westbound on Highway 198 near Eggers Drive; A femail driver from Three Rivers was also headed westbound in her 2006 Toyota 4Runner.

According to the preliminary CHP report, one of the motorists attempted to pass, causing the two vehicles to collide. There was minor damage to both vehicles and neither driver was injured.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The second accident was reported on Saturday, March 8, at 7:10 a.m. In that solo vehicle accident, a 38-year-old Exeter man was driving his 2000 Honda Accord eastbound on Highway 198 east of Horse Creek and drove off the shoulder.

The vehicle suffered major damage and had to be towed from the scene. The condition of the driver was not listed in the preliminary accident report.

The cause of the Lake Kaweah accident also remains under investigation.
