Fall events get donors on their feet (for great causes)

Now is the time of year to lace up the athletic shoes and pound the pavement for a good cause. It’s a great way to be of service by providing much-needed funds while having a reason to add some fitness to your day.

Three Rivers resident Bertha Garza is assembling a team to participate in next month’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a 3.1-mile walk that begins and ends at Mooney Grove Park in Visalia. Bertha is the owner of Comforting Assistance in Three Rivers, a licensed in-home care facility, so she knows how imperative it is to provide time and money to support the Alzheimer’s Association’s vision of a world without the disease. Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

“I’m walking for the beautiful individuals that I have had the privilege to assist as a caregiver and founder of Comforting Assistance,” writes Bertha on her online Team Page. “I know, firsthand, that too many people and their families have been affected by Alzheimer’s.”

To join Bertha’s team or to make a donation, call her at (559) 936-3054. To join or donate online, search “Walk to End Alzheimer’s Visalia,” then select the first listing that delineates Tulare County. From that web page, select “Find a Walker” (Bertha Garza) or “Find a Team” (Comforting Assistance).
