George F. Smith, a longtime resident of Three Rivers, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at his home. He was 70.
George was born August 7, 1945, in Bartlesville, Okla., to Frederick and Catherine Smith. In 1974, he married the former Donna Prewer. They settled in Three Rivers and started their family.
George and Donna owned and operated D&D Electric Motor Co. in Visalia for 25 years. George also owned and operated Unique Stoneware, his pottery business, for the past 40 years. His work was featured at art shows, festivals, and retail shops throughout Three Rivers for nearly 40 years.
George was previously a volleyball coach for Three Rivers Union School and Exeter and Redwood (Visalia) high schools. He had a passion for boating, wake-surfing, wakeboarding, waterskiing, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna Smith of Three Rivers; two sons, Patrick Smith of Oxnard and Christopher Smith of Buellton; two daughters, Jennifer Smith of Visalia and Kellee Smith (Torey Washburn) of Visalia; two sisters, Barbara Nolfi (Don) of Burlington, Vt. ,and twin Janet Kawelo (Gaby) of Kailua, Hawaii; sister-in-law Annette Smith of Oxnard; and three grandchildren, Logan, Blake, and Kaylee.
A celebration of life service was held Thursday, Sept. 17, at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel in Visalia.
