Jill Elliott: 1952 ~ 2020

It is with deep regret that the family of Jill Marie Elliott announces her passing on Monday, February 3, 2020, in Orange County, California, after a long battle with cancer. She was 67.
Jill was born June 2, 1952, in Garfield Heights, Ohio, to John William Elliott and Olga (Farber) Elliott. She was the third of four children.
Jill grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1970. She loved music and played piano and viola as a youth. Jill was a straight-A student and always involved in numerous school and church activities.
From 1970 to 1973, Jill attended Wittenberg University (Ohio) where she majored in Psychology and minored in English Literature. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
While a student at Wittenberg, she spent a semester at Camarillo State Hospital in California as an intern working with autistic children. She then spent a summer traveling in Europe before attending graduate school at Michigan State University. She attended MSU in East Lansing from 1973 to 1975 where she earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW).
Jill then moved to New Hampshire to accept a position with Dartmouth University Mental Health at the young age of 23. That same year, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and spent a year in recovery before moving to California to be near her family. She lived the rest of her life in Huntington Beach, from 1978 until her passing on February 3, 2020.
Jill worked with youth and the underprivileged all her life. She volunteered from an early age through her church and community, working to connect disadvantaged people with the resources they needed to succeed in life.
Being the resourceful person that she was, she managed to combine her ambition to travel with her dedication to helping others. She traveled to China and Russia with members of her church community to teach English to high school students to break down cultural barriers and promote peace and understanding.
Jill enjoyed watching professional sports. She and her life partner, Jeff, spent much of their time together cheering on their favorite teams. She was a baseball fan who loved watching the Los Angeles Angels and her hometown team, the Cleveland Indians. When baseball season would end she followed her favorite NBA teams, the Lakers and the Clippers.
Jill was preceded in death by her parents, John William Elliott (1922-1987) and Olga Elliott (1922-1962).
She is survived by her best friend, caregiver, and life partner, Jeff Sorber, of Huntington Beach; her stepmother, Betty Elliott, of St. George, Utah; sister Susie Leach and husband Mark of Darby, Montana; sister Kim Rollefson and husband Martin of Bozeman, Montana; brother Jack Elliott and wife Sarah of Three Rivers, California; niece Megan Ensign and husband Chris Campagna of Chicago, Illinois; niece Jennie Inouye and husband Jimmy of Oakland, California; nephew Johnnie Elliott of Sacramento, California; and her high school best friend, Elaine Herhuth Cregan, of Avon Lake, Ohio.
