Jim Peters of Irvine died Tuesday, Oct. 7, surrounded by his family. He was 83.
Jim and Joan were previous residents of the Three Rivers community, and many happy years were spent there with their family and friends.
James (Jim) Peters was born May 7, 1931, to Frank Peters M.D. and Helen Peters in Chicago, Ill. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War.
At age 20, Jim met the love of his life, Joan O’Leary, on a blind date. They were married months later, on October 20, 1951, in San Francisco.
Jim Peters added culture to the lives of the people around him.
He was a true renaissance man, who could engage in a knowledgeable and passionate conversation about virtually anything: his beloved Catholic church, art, music, travel, books, technology, photography, food, drink, engineering, politics, history, cars, and airplanes. His interests and specialties are as vast as the community he amassed around him. Jim was made whole by his wife Joan, who complemented and humbled him.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan, their children, Kathleen Peters of Laguna Niguel, Mike and wife Janet of Seal Beach, Bill of Torrance, and Jack and wife Renee of Hailey, Idaho; four grandchildren, Heather Mau’u of Cypress, Garth Gipson of Visalia, Dezi Peters of San Diego, and Tyler Peters of Hailey, Idaho; and five great-grandchildren.
