U.S. Postal Service officials are investigating vandalism that occurred at the Kaweah Post Office sometime during the night of Monday, Dec. 23, or the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 24. A vandal or vandals tried to pry open three of the antique postal boxes that are still in service at the historic postal facility.
The small, rustic wood building was established at its current location in 1910. It has not been determined if mail was stolen in connection with the vandalism.
“Those postal boxes are not in use anywhere else and are irreplaceable,” said Kathleen McCleary, who leases the historic property to the USPS for a neighborhood station.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Joseph Carey, the officer-in-charge at the Three Rivers Post Office, at 561-4261.
