Lake Kaweah visitor causes highway collision

Shianne Savoy, 21, of Three Rivers was headed westbound in a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup on Sunday morning, September 6. As she approached the Kaweah Recreation Area, a late-model Chevrolet Malibu driven by Randall Riley, 65, of Eugene, Ore., entered the highway into the path of the pickup.

Savoy told the California Highway Patrol officer at the scene that she swerved toward the shoulder but couldn’t avoid colliding with the driver’s side of the Malibu. Both drivers complained of pain, so after being examined at the scene, they were transported via ambulances to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for further treatment.

The Toyota pickup sustained moderate damage to the left front; the Chevrolet had major damage to the vehicle’s left side.

Riley was cited for causing an accident and violation of right-of-way.
