Hector Hernandez, 26, of Porterville was injured in a solo motorcycle accident that occurred on Saturday, Oct. 11, about 5 p.m. on Highway 198 near Pierce Drive. A witness at the scene called 911, and Tulare County fire personnel responded to the scene within a few minutes.
Upon arrival, the emergency responders located a Harley Davidson Softail motorcycle with major damage on the westbound shoulder of the highway. The motorcyclist, who suffered moderate injuries in the crash, apparently lost control and veered off the roadway.
The injured motorcyclist was examined at the scene and transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia for further treatment. A CHP investigator interviewed Hernandez and he was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
A blood sample from Hernandez was taken at Kaweah Delta Medical Center. No information was released as to the extent of the injuries or the victim’s condition.
MK Road accident
The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta involved in the accident that occurred on Saturday night, Oct. 4 (“Driver injured after running off MK Road,” Friday, Oct. 10) was identified as Alexandro Chavez, 30, of Tulare. Chavez, who was not cited, told the CHP investigator that he failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
Generals Highway incident
On Friday, Oct. 10, a vehicle traveling westbound a half-mile below Hospital Rock on the Generals Highway in Sequoia National Park failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, and came to stop down the embankment south of the roadway. Details of this accident have yet to be released by NPS rangers.
