National magazine names area campground as Sierra's best

Cold Springs Campground, in the Mineral King area of Sequoia National Park, was named “Best Campground” in the Sierra Nevada by Sunset magazine as part of its July 2014 issue that featured favorite spots in the Sierra, Cascade, San Juan, and Wasatch mountains. Cold Springs has 31 campsites plus nine walk-in campsites and is for tents only as no motorhomes or trailers are allowed on the curvy, narrow Mineral King Road. The 2014 camping season is quickly coming to a close as the water at Cold Springs will be turned off for the winter on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Another local winner was “Best Peak,” which was awarded to 11,204-foot Alta Peak.
