The first ever Woodlake Christmas Parade, organized by the nonprofit Homegrown Project, was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12. After watching the weather reports, however, the group made the last-minute, albeit timely, decision to postpone the parade to Saturday, Dec. 13.
This was a strategic move since the storm that inundated the region on Friday had headed east, which made for clear skies so Santa could fly in to attend the festivities.
Unbeknownst to him at the time, Frank Ainley, lifetime resident of Elderwood and former Woodlake High teacher and coach, was announced to be the parade’s first grand marshal. Following the parade, all were invited to Santa’s Workshop at the new transit center for photos with Santa and refreshments.
