Dennis was born December 20, 1932, in Santa Cruz, Calif., to Alvadore and Doris Welch. He graduated from Paso Robles Union High School in 1951 and received his bachelor of science degree in Agriculture and Applied Science from Kansas State University in 1967. Obituary | Dennis Welch
In 1957, Dennis married Judy Cook. They resided near Redding, Calif., where Dennis owned, operated, and restored the former Fisher Ranch, a 24,000-acre cattle ranch in Shasta County. Obituary | Dennis Welch
In 1968, the couple moved to Visalia, Calif., where they raised their two children. Dennis was hired by Ralston Purina Co. in Visalia as a regional sales manager. Later, Dennis and Judy resided in Glen Ellen in California’s wine country and Dennis began a new career in the wine business.
In 2009, Dennis moved to Riata Ranch International in Three Rivers, Calif., to be near his daughter and her husband. Besides enjoying his favorite eateries in Visalia, he loved hanging out at The Gateway Restaurant in Three Rivers where he was loved and known as the “Mayor of Pumpkin Hollow.” Dennis continued raising cattle, maintaining a small cow/calf operation at Riata Ranch.
Dennis was past president of the Visalia Optimist Club and past member of the Kiwanis Club. Locally, Dennis was a member of Three Rivers Lion Club and on the board of directors of the nonprofit Riata Ranch International. Obituary | Dennis Welch
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Cook Welch, and his son-in-law, Chad Nicholson (1968-2019). Obituary | Dennis Welch
Dennis is survived by his son, Mark Welch of San Luis Obispo; daughter Jennifer Nicholson of Three Rivers; and two nieces, Bonnie Moro of La Verne, Calif., and Cathy Cook of San Francisco.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Riata Ranch International.
