Parks’ Wilderness Plan open for comments

The National Park Service today released for review the Wilderness Stewardship Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The plan is available online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/sekiwild.

Copies on CD are also available by request. Printed copies are at the Three Rivers Library and the Foothills Visitor Center in Ash Mountain.

The public comment period is open through August 25 at 11 p.m. Comments may be made online at the park planning website (see first paragraph for address. Written comments may be sent to: Superintendent, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Attn: Wilderness Stewardship Plan, 47050 Generals Highway, Three Rivers, CA  93271.

Comments may also be hand-delivered to the Foothills Visitor Center (Ash Mountain park headquarters) or faxed to (559) 565-4202. 

Three public meetings are scheduled, none of which are in Three Rivers: Wednesday, July 23, Richard Trudeau Training Center, Oakland; Thursday, July 24, Eastern Sierra Tri-County Fairgrounds, Bishop; and Monday, July 28, Visalia Marriott Hotel. The meetings are from 6 to 9 p.m.
