Road construction delays on Generals Highway and Highway 180

A Caltrans project to replace the bridge rails on the Kings River Bridge on Highway 180 will cause traffic delays this summer.

Generals Highway— Road construction is taking place along the Generals Highway from the northern end of Sequoia National Park to the Generals Highway/Highway 180 intersection (The Wye) in Kings Canyon National Park. Delays through this construction zone are not expected to exceed one hour, and no overnight or weekend work is currently scheduled. For more information about this project visit www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/road-construction.htm.

HIGHWAY 180— Forest and Park officials are working with Caltrans to replace bridge rails on the South Fork Kings River Bridge along Highway 180 near Boyden Cavern in Kings Canyon. The bridge is located in Giant Sequoia National Monument, Sequoia National Forest.

Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This route provides the only road access to Cedar Grove, located in Kings Canyon National Park. Visitors can expect delays of up to 15 minutes when traveling this route through the Forest or entering/leaving Cedar Grove. Longer delays are possible during periods of heavy traffic.

Boyden Cavern is scheduled to open later in the summer. Once open, visitors may have difficulty getting into and out of the parking area (reservations are recommended). More information about Boyden Cavern can be found at www.boydencavern.com.

In addition, Convict Flat Campground will have partial closures through August 2020 due to housing of heavy equipment and personnel in this location.
