Ruth van Gilluwe, a former 25-year resident of Three Rivers currently living in Pasadena, died Thursday, July 31, 2014.
After graduating from UCLA, Ruth was a teacher in Bakersfield. In 1939, she married Frank van Gilluwe (1915-2004).
During Frank’s 36-year career with United Airlines, the couple moved frequently, living in Pasadena, Berkeley, Orinda, Fresno, Boston, Philadelphia, and Sunnyvale.
Upon Frank’s retirement, the couple moved to their river home in Three Rivers where they resided for more than 20 years. In about 2001, the couple relocated to Visalia.
Ruth was a member of the Redbud Garden Club and Community Presbyterian Church in Three Rivers. She was also a member of PEO (Philanthropic Educational Institution). She loved traveling, shopping for antiques, working in her garden, and sewing and other handicrafts.
Ten years ago, on August 1, 2004, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Frank.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara; son Peter and wife Kay of Three Rivers; sons George and Frank; and four grandchildren.
A private service will be held.
