Around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Lake Kaweah to a location east of Horse Creek Campground. A woman reported to deputies that she’d been jet-skiing with a man she’d recently met when the jet-ski flipped over, sending both the man and woman into the water. The woman said she looked for the man but couldn’t find him, so she swam to shore to summon help.
When deputies searched the area, they found the man’s Black Ford F-150 parked in a paid parking lot at Slick Rock. Two hours later, deputies found the jet ski but there was no sign of the missing man.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter searched the area during the night. On Monday, the TCSO plane, as well as personnel and the Dive Team, were on scene looking for the man. In the meantime, the missing man made his way back to his truck where he found a card left by TCSO asking him to contact them. He told deputies he swam to a “remote shore” of the lake and spent the night before returning to his vehicle in the daylight hours.
