Ms. Athena’s Music Studio presented “A Spring Recital” on Sunday, May 19, at the Three Rivers Arts Center. The performers included 13 aspiring musicians, ages four to 11, all of whom receive music lessons from Athena Saenz. Among this group, 12 students played the piano and one student, Ella Boiano, a fifth grader at Three Rivers School, performed on violin.

Proud parents, grandparents, and friends enjoyed piano and a violin rendition from the youth of various skill levels but all with something in common: a love for the music instilled in them by a patient and caring instructor, Ms. Athena.

After the final applause for a “Heart and Soul” duet by Isabella Brown and Alexa Rodriguez, everyone met up for a special concert and potluck hosted by Buckaroo Diner. Athena Saenz joined Wadaba and Friends for a special performance that introduced the students and the audience to the unique instrumentation of West African drumming.

Wadaba, a Three Rivers resident and drum master, and his group, which includes Athena, Keio Ogawa, Buddy Jones, and Noah Watenmaker, punctuated their performance with lessons in rhythm, melody, and audience participation.

I absolutely LOVED this music video of Wadaba, Keio, and friends. It’s been too many years since I’ve heard them in person. Mesmerizing! Thank you for sharing 3R News.
