TCAT links rural communities

Would you like to explore downtown Visalia while doing something environmentally friendly such as leaving your car at home? Or would you prefer to ride your bike around Visalia instead of looking for a parking space?

Tulare County Area Transit (TCAT) is a great way to go. Area buses are now dependable and convenient transit for small communities throughout Tulare County.

TCAT operates fixed-route services daily and a Dial-A-Ride Monday through Friday. To schedule a Dial-A-Ride pick-up, simply call 1-800-431-9711. Catching a ride from TCAT is easy at designated bus stops (watch for the TCAT signs), however, boarding or getting off the bus can be done anywhere along the route where the driver can safely stop. (If planning on catching the bus somewhere besides a regular bus stop, call a day in advance to let TCAT know where you will be waiting.)

Connecting to other transit services in the cities of Woodlake, Visalia, Dinuba, Porterville, and Tulare is easy, but separate fares will be required.

Three Rivers residents can catch the TCAT at the Memorial Building at 6 a.m., 9:50 a.m., 3:10 p.m., and 7:35 p.m. As the bus turns around and heads toward Visalia, it will also make a stop along the highway at the Village Market shopping area.

From Three Rivers, it is approximately a 45-minute ride to Visalia with stops along the way in Woodlake and Ivanhoe.

Fares one way for fixed route: general $1.50; seniors/disabled/Medicare cardholder (9 a.m.-3 p.m.) 75¢; and first two children 6 years and under are free with each additional child $1.50.

For Dial-A-Rides: general $2.25; seniors/disabled/Medicare cardholder $1.50; first two children 6 years and under are free; each additional child $2.25.

Additional passes including a monthly T-Pass are also available at all pass sales outlets.

Public transportation enhances the environment, saves fuel, reduces congestion, promotes community growth, saves money, and reduces carbon footprints. Scheduled transit furnishes mobility and more options to get to school, work, doctors’ appointments, shopping, or even to visit family or friends. It is beneficial for travelers who wish to explore without a vehicle.
