On Wednesday, July 12, Three Rivers commuters were witness to the aftermath of a serious accident that occurred at 6:25 a.m. just west of the entrance to the Kaweah Recreation Area (second boat ramp). John “JP” Souza, 57, of Three Rivers was headed eastbound toward Three Rivers when his 2006 Chevrolet 2500HD Series truck crossed the highway, left the roadway, and traveled down a steep embankment.
The vehicle came to a stop among the boulders and vegetation on the north side of the highway. Souza was transported from the scene via Exeter Ambulance to Kaweah Delta Health Center.
The victim of the solo-vehicle accident suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries that reportedly include a punctured lung and dislocated hip.
Souza’s truck was a total loss when it was brought back up to the roadway by a tow truck about two hours after the crash occurred.
