Trump supporters rally in Three Rivers

Video editing by Ethan Paggi

On Sunday, November 1, there were the usual trucks adorned with Trump flags, several Harleys, and more than 100 Trump fans of all ages who gathered along the Highway 198 shoulder in front of the Village Shopping Center.  The occasion was to stage a rally in Three Rivers to demonstrate local solidarity with the Republican candidate on the eve of what would surely be one of the most historic elections in U.S. history.

The mood was festive as attendees had come out to get the victory party started early in what they hoped would be the reelection of President Donald Trump. In circulating among the crowd, there were some obvious things these Trump supporters shared: (1) Trump is the best candidate because he is a businessman and not a politician; (2) Trump’s vision of freedom is more aligned with their own and that does not include the wearing of facial coverings; (3) the media and Democrats have exaggerated the seriousness of the pandemic and the health risk; (4) Trump has done an excellent job with foreign policy and reigning in the economic threat posed by China; and (5) Trump believes in the “right to life,” and abortion should be illegal.

Among Three Rivers voters the results vary little from election to election. In 2012, Barack Obama won Three Rivers by a single vote. In 2016, Trump’s margin of victory was in single digits. In 2020, expect more of the same.

In this 3R News video, six Three Rivers residents speak out as to why they support Trump.

What an interesting article, with your succinct five reasons people support Trump. It’s such a hard thing to fathom from the other side of the divide. I appreciate it.

I read a post recently which said something like, “after the election is over, your neighbors will still be your neighbors no matter who is president….and we’ll still have to live and work together – so what’s important is that we choose to be loving & caring humans no matter who you vote for.” It’s a nice sentiment to make yourself feel better about your choice, maybe so you can sleep at night, but at the end of the day, we’ll remember.

We’ll remember the ones who chose to support someone who does not value all lives – not woman’s lives, not LGBTQ+ lives, not immigrant lives, not Black lives, not refugee lives, not indigenous lives, not lives of people of color, not the lives claimed or forever altered by the pandemic. The ones who chose someone who condones & invites violence, bullying, incessant lying, someone who does not believe in science. We’ll remember those who decided they don’t actually care about all lives, only their own.

So sure, be caring & loving. Just know, we’ll remember.

I don’t think this article was meant as a call for in fighting among residents. But don’t worry we will remember too. I will remember who voted for full term abortion and riots and decreasing police numbers and police power when needed. This town is now divided. I don’t believe we can go back either just like you.

I’m glad to hear from all the locals on why they support Donald. Great unbiased news coverage John! For me, being an environmentalist, the dozens of protections for wildlife and Mother Earth that were turned around under this administration make me very sad. May the best man win, and may we all live peacefully together.

Thank you 3r News for providing context from the people at the rally. I truly appreciate understanding local mindset from our own news like this. In Three Rivers where we all commune daily with the beauty of preserved natural landscapes and also live with obvious effects from air pollution caused by human decisions, I found myself particularly shocked discovering such support for a candidate with such a destructive environmental record. Many policies get built upon, scrapped, or changed, and like nature our regulations are always evolving, but environmental destruction is something we cannot always reverse (ie: opening Alaskan wilderness for drilling & Tongass for logging).

Watching these interviews has made me appreciate the fact checking and “truth-screening” by Facebook and Twitter. Far right and left plus FOX talk shows (Carlson, Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, etc.) are responsible for putting out false news. These sites have torn our country apart. I don’t understand why people don’t fact-check for themselves rather than blindly racing out to spout “miss-truths.” One person thought the President had brokered two peace treaties in the mid-east, one with Saudi Arabia. I challenge her to list the name and date of that treaty. This past year, there was an official formalizing of a long standing secret agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. That agreement actually had been partly brokered by Joe Biden while he was VP. And, the agreement is based on Israel’s not annexing any more land in Palestine. She might read how the people of Palestine and the rest of the Arab world feel about that. COVID?? Nurse?? Even FOX news is reporting the increase in infections and deaths across the US. This denial of science–hard to believe coming from a nurse whose education was based in science…I might add that you would be hard-pressed to find anyone in the United States who believes in late term abortions unless it involves the survival of the mother.
