TRUS moving ahead on modernization

At the regular Three Rivers Union School board meeting on Wednesday, May 1, trustees approved the bid of Orel E. Micham Inc., a Woodlake construction company. The first phase of the $3,033,000 contract includes the remodeling of the primary and middle school) wings.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 10, just after the 2018/2019 school year ends on June 7. The primary wing is expected to be completed in August by the start of the 2019/2020 school year. According to the terms of the contract, the hexagon wing should be completed by mid-December 2019.

In other TRUS news, Robin Pena, an instructional aide for 28 years, will be retiring at the end of the current school year. Robin attended Three Rivers School; her mother, Bobbie Harris, taught at TRUS; and her grandmother, Mary McDowall, was the school’s first principal/superintendent.

The next meeting of the TRUS board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the school library. At that meeting, there will be a review of the 2019/2020 budget and an update on how the sale of the bonds will finance the modernization project. The public is encouraged to attend.
