Vehicle vs. house

The normally quiet Pogue Avenue in Lemon Cove was jolted on Saturday, Oct. 3, just after noon when a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 pickup careened off Highway 198 and crashed into the home that sits just east of the intersection. Because of the excessive speed that the driver, Joe Ramos Florez, 24, of Reedley was driving, the out-of-control vehicle flipped over, crashed through a picket fence, struck the house, and came to rest right side up wedged between the house and a tree.

Accordingto a CHP report, the driver was trapped in the cab of the truck still wearing his seat belt. He was extricated from the wreck by Tulare County Fire Department emergency responders.

Once removed from the wreckage, Florez was examined at the scene and transported via ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries. The CHP investigating officer said there was evidence at the scene that the 24-year-old motorist was under the influence of alcohol.
