The smoky mornings this past week are attributed to the French Fire, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.  The wildfire is in Sierra National Forest east of Oakhurst. It is burning in parched timber and brush, has grown to more than 7,000 acres and, as of Thursday, July 31, is 10 percent contained. The fire started Monday, July 28; the cause is under investigation. Twelve area campgrounds have been closed.

The El Portal Fire, burning west of Yosemite near Highway 140 is 3,900 acres and 34 percent contained.

The monsoon moisture brought a trace of rain to Three Rivers on Tuesday morning, July 29, along with some lightning and thunder activity. The temperatures are forecast to hover around the century mark for the upcoming week. What do you expect? It's August!
