The subfreezing temperatures early in the week were not unusual for early December. They were a departure from what most of the country has become accustomed to in 2015 — the warmest year on record.
Rain will return Thursday, and this storm is shaping up as one of the cold, intense winter variety. There remains a foot of snow in the local mountains at 7,000 feet.
