Three Rivers School students spend a day at Park Ridge Fire Lookout

TRUS eighth-graders and their teacher, Sue Sherwood (right), during a field trip in September to Park Ridge Lookout in Kings Canyon National Park.

One of the favorite activities of the Buck Rock Foundation is its student education program. All three of our lookouts — Buck Rock, Delilah and Park Ridge — entertain kids of all ages where they learn the importance of fire lookouts and receive hands-on experience of fire detection, fire weather, good fire/bad fire, and many other skills necessary to be on first line of defense of wildfire detection.
We’d like to thank Mrs. Sherwood’s eighth-grade class from Three Rivers Union School for visiting Park Ridge Lookout in Kings Canyon National Park in September. We had a blast!
And… there’s nothing finer than receiving a handmade thank-you book from the kids. Each TRUS student wrote a personal note to trainers John Ziegler, Fire Management Officer – Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park;, George Kulick, Buck Rock Foundation firewatcher and former TRUS board member; and Wendy Garton, volunteer lookout coordinator and firewatcher. Thanks, kids! It was a fun day, and we look forward to next year’s class. Three Rivers students
